Water and land in Sahel With the increase in European influence following the death of president Sankara, water and earth continue to be rare and precious resources for daily life in Burkina. Severe exploitation on the part of large multinationals only exacerbates the problem, giving rise to situations in which the population does not have sufficient means to support themselves; this exploitation thus becomes one of the causes of the migratory trends towards other African and European countries. Carefully focussed cooperation projects contribute towards the remedy of this situation with the aim of making the people of this land self-sufficient and decelerating migratory flows. [Text Long] |
